This project will investigate the gap in media reports in Hong Kong's major newspapers on the city's democracy movements to reveal potential media bias and its impact on the Hong Kong population.
The applicant will collect and analyze new articles and op-eds covering democracy movements in Hong Kong since the 2014 Umbrella Movement. Applicants should be able to read newspapers written in Chinese.
The applicants will learn analytical reading of media reports. They will also be provided with a substantial opportunity to conduct quantitative analysis and text analysis of collected data under my close supervision.
