Biodiesel production from waste transformation
Project Description

This projects aims to transform the carbohydrates-containing waste into biodiesel. The waste materials will be thermo-catalytically oxidized into valuable alcohol such as ethanol and methanol. Those alcohols can be used as fuels for motor vehicles. A prototype will be designed and developed, where optimization of both catalyst preparation and reaction system will also be conducted.

Applicant's Roles

The applicants should be capable of catalyst preparation and characterization. In which, they are responsible for developing the whole reactor system as well as the catalyst fabrication. He/She will be responsible for developing the prototype and evaluate its catalytic performance for the biodiesel production.

Applicant's Learning Objectives

After the project, the applicant should be able to:
- develop a catalytic system for waste oxidation process
- develop a prototype for the biodiesel production
- build up the confidence in developing the practical prototype
