Construction of a signal transduction pathway reporter indicator for monitoring signaling strength
Project Description

Signal transduction takes place in multicellular organisms to relay signals from outside the cells into the cells. Subsequently, cellular differentiation occurs depending on the signaling strength. In vivo study usually would not be able to reveal the exact signaling strength easily, either it is dependent of the phenotypic output, or it requires complicated purification of transduction molecule before they can be detected. This project will aim to visualize the signal strength using report indicators and we hope that an easy readout can be obtained in minutes without sophisticated equipments.

Applicant's Roles

The applicant will be required to work out the strategy of biological assay, to construct the indicator reporter and conduct verification experiments to show that the indicator reporter works as expected.

Applicant's Learning Objectives

Molecular, cellular and genetics techniques will be acquired. Moderate literature reading and discussion will be required, so that the applicant would be prepared for conducting independent research in the future.
