Equipment automation for remote experimentation
Project Description

Emerging non-volatile memory, sensors, energy harvesters, and data processing accelerators based on emerging materials are promising for AI and IoT applications. It is very time-consuming to characterize the full properties of these emerging devices and systems by manually controlling the test equipment system. Moreover, it is difficult to adjust the measurement apparatuses in-person in many cases, such as the recent outbreak of COVID-19. The objective of this project is to develop a universal software platform to control all apparatuses remotely for intelligently investigating these emerging devices and systems.

Applicant's Roles

The student is expected to work with the supervisor and PG students to write programs to control test equipment and analyze measured data.

Applicant's Learning Objectives

The applicant will be learning:
1) Basics of device testing (use magnetic memory and sensors as examples);
2) Equipment programming languages with Labview/Python;
3) Motors, chip holders, electromagnet, electrical sources/meters, RF circuits, etc.;
