Excitation and imaging of Terahertz phonon-polaritons
Project Description

Phonon-polariton is a hybrid of electromagnetic waves and local polar atomic oscillations. It is an elementary excitation with features of both phonon and photon. In this project, we first simulate numerically the propagation of phonon-polaritoin in real space and time for extracting phonon-polariton dispersion curve in polar slab. At a more advanced level, polariton propagation in comlex structure, including patterned polar slab and heterostructure, will be investigated.
