Internet of Tree Things (IOTT)
Project Description

The main objective of this project is to implement the innovative sensing system, called Internet of Tree Things (IoTT), to constantly monitor the tree stability condition in the HKUST campus. The IOTT system is the Lora-based (LPWAN) sensing system, which is able to capture subtle and dynamic tree movement in real-time to give out any necessary advanced warning for hazard trees. Emerging technologies, such as IoT, big data analytics, and deep learning will be used in the IOTT.

Applicant's Roles

Students will work in the Data-Enabled Scalable Research (DESR) Laboratory to help sensor design and manufacturing, sensor installation, data analyses, etc.

Applicant's Learning Objectives

(1) To learn the knowledge of sensor design and manufacturing.
(2) To learn the background knowledge of LPWAN (low power wide area sensing network)
(3) To learning tree monitoring methodology and big data analytics (might learn basic knowledge of deep learning).
(4) To learn how to leverage innovative IoT technologies to help environmental conservation and protection.
