Phase changing functional oxides for energy conversion
Project Description

We are going to design new functional oxides undergoing structural phase transformation together with the singular jump of one or more multiferroic properties. Such a special functionality enables a new energy conversion mechanism directly from heat to electricity, which underlies a promising energy harvesting method from wasted heat.

Applicant's Roles

The student should spend sufficient lab time working with the graduate students on material synthesis, microstructure observation, energy conversion demonstration and characterization.

Applicant's Learning Objectives

In the end, the student is expected to contribute a peer-reviewed journal paper. The best student will be nominated for the UROP research award.
