Repressing the Emotion: Censorship of Popular Culture under Authoritarianism
Project Description

This project will study the logic and effects of authoritarian repression. It focuses on the censorship of popular culture which affect the citizens freedom and emotional expression substantially. We will collect data of banned popular songs under authoritarian ruling and analyze the text to understand the logic of repression.

Applicant's Roles

The applicant will collect the data and run basic text analysis under the supervision of the PI. The applicant will also review the existing literature and participate in writing an academic paper with the PI.

Applicant's Learning Objectives

The applicant should aim to experience empirical social science research. Through the project the applicant will learn how to collect and analyze the text data.
