Project Description

The goal of the project is to develop a novel robotic gripper for warehouse automation for automated object picking and sorting in the e-commerce process. The initial idea is to develop a dry adhesive material integrated into the gripper for wide range object grasping.

Applicant's Roles

The students will join the research team to develop the Gecko inspired dry adhesive materials. THe basic principle is well understood, and we need students to conduct fabrication of prototype materials of dry adhesion which are similar to Gecko's feet.

The students will become project assistants, working with post-graduate students and research assistants in Robotics Institute.

Applicant's Learning Objectives

The objective of this UROP is to provide the students an opportunity to conduct fabrications of the Gecko materials for the specific applications. They will learn how to do research work, and will understand the cutting edge application of robotic automation in today's marketplace.
