Modeling mammalian vesicle dynamics in yeast

Project Description:The ATM and ATR proteins play unexpected roles in the movement of vesicles in mammalian cells. Both proteins have homologs in yeast and this project will explore the extent to which the power of yeast genetics can be used to predict the behavior of vesicles in mammalian cells, including synaptic vesicles in neuronal synapses.

Applicant's Roles:The applicant will learn how to culture yeast and image the process of vesicle endocytosis using dye uptake techniques. The parameters of this process will the be tested for their response to genetic, epigenetic and metabolic factors
