Use Kolmogorov–Zurbenko filter to detrend the air quality data

The Kolmogorov-Zurbenko (KZ) filter will be applied to detrend the Ozone, SO2, NOx, CO and PM concentration data in Hong Kong. The yearly and seasonal trends will be removed by this filter and the short-term variation will be characterized by the multi-linear regression. By doing so, we want to investigate how the long-term trend of the air pollutants responds to the implementation of the control policy. The meteorology influence on short-term air pollutant concentrations can also be further investigated by using the KZ filter and regression method.

The applicants are expected to finish subjects in basic calculus and statistics (saftware R), he/she should have a good programming skills. He/she will help the supervisor to conduct the numerical simulation part of the project.
