Project Title:
Characterization of genetic loci required for endoreduplication
Supervisor:CHOW King Lau
Co-Supervisor:-
Quota:2
Project Description:Endoreduplication is a process that general increased cellular ploidy in organism. It has a strong implication in normal development of liver, heart and placenta, an organ unique in viviparious organism. It as some bearing of similarity to cancer and yet plays a crucial role in normal tissue organ function. Using hypodermal tissue in nematode as a model, we have isolated different genetic mutants with defect in endoreduplication, likely implicating a collection of genes never reported before. Genetic mapping and molecular characterization will be the primary objective of this project. We hope to uncover new genetic components which would allow us to have a better understanding of tissue expansion and hypertrophy.
