Project Title:
Bimetallic Photocatalysts for Antibiotics Degradation
Supervisor:LAM Leung Yuk Frank
Project Description:Antibiotics in clinical wastewater is a long-lasting problem for their remediation due to their antibacterial nature to the biological treatment process. Recent technology using photocatalytic oxidation process offers an alternative to such degradation process. This project is to fabricate a bimetallic supported catalysts for the antibiotics degradation with the aid of irradiation source. Different kinds of metal-based catalysts will be attempted and investigate their synergistic effect on their catalytic activity of antibiotics degradation.
Course type:UROP1000 UROP1100 UROP2100 UROP3100 UROP4100
Applicant's Roles:(a) Fabrication and characterization of metallic-based catalysts (b) Evaluation of the developed catalysts via the home-built photo reactor system (c) Systematic study and optimization of the whole reaction system
Applicant's Learning Objectives:To teach student how to prepare, characterize, and evaluate the catalytic materials. Training on different characterization techniques as well as the setup of reactor system will be given for their learning purpose.
Complexity of the project:Moderate
