Extraction of Stevia Glycosides as Food Additives Production

Project Description:Stevia glycosides are kinds of sweeteners which are 30-320 times sweeter than sucrose. They are normally used as natural sugar substitutes for diabetic patients. This process is aimed to extract the components of stevia glycosides like Rebaudiana A from the raw materials. Solvent extraction will be used as the main approach and the extracts will be analyzed by chromatographic methods.

Applicant's Roles:The candidates are responsable for both extraction process and products characterization. The candidate should be hard working and is able to work independently. 
Applicant's Learning Objectives:The project provides opportunities on the hands-on experience in conducting experiments, particularly the extraction process and analysis of aqueous products. Bi-weekly meeting will be conducted during the whole project period for the assessment of the students.
