Project Title:
Field measurements of pressure surges in water supply pipeline systems for leakage detection
Supervisor:LEE Joseph Hun-wei
Co-Supervisor:CHAN Shu Ning
Quota:2
Project Description:Water mains burst and leakage has been one of the major challenges to water supply system networks worldwide including Hong Kong. The water main bursts result in significant loss of water and energy consumption; it is difficult to diagnose the location and extent of potential water leaks. As part of the Smart Urban Water Supply System project, the objective is to carry out field measurements to study the characteristics of pressure surges and hydraulic transients in Hong Kong’s water supply systems.
Course type: UROP1100 UROP2100 UROP3100 UROP4100
Applicant's Roles:Students will participate in field experiments, and assist in data analysis and numerical modeling.
Applicant's Learning Objectives:Students will understand the basics of leakage detection using hydraulic transients.
