Fast-Acting Liquid Adhesives for Closing Wounds
Project Description
The project will focus on the development of a tissue adhesive material that can rapidly polymerize on tissue surfaces. The material is particularly useful in medical emergencies, where closing of wounds is urgent to prevent blood loss and infection. The team will focus on solving at least one of the current limitations of the material, which include poor mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. The team will focus on (a) the synthesis of the adhesive material composed of cyanoacrylate macromonomers, (b) in vitro polymerization studies of the material, and (c) the material characterization of the resulting adhesive film. At the end of the project, the team is expected to manufacture a prototype, which includes the adhesive material and an applicator.
